What does it mean to be a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH)?

On paper, it means that Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is a member of a national charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for children’s healthcare needs at the local level. As one of over 170 member hospitals across North America, SVMHS receives donations through CMNH’s many national corporate partnerships to help fund critical initiatives for children’s health. However, to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital (SVMH), it is so much more than that. Being a CMN Hospital is a part of our long history of caring for community in the Salinas Valley and beyond.

Since 1989, our local CMN Hospitals program has operated with the priority of putting local children’s healthcare needs first. Over the years, donated funds have been able to support things like pediatric comfort items so that children who enter our hospital have a soft stuffed animal to cuddle with while undergoing treatment. Or more recently, the implementation of the NICView camera system so that parents and extended family members can see their little ones in the NICU when they are away from the hospital.

However, our commitment to children’s health extends far beyond the walls of our hospital. The CMN Hospitals program at SVMHS offers a very special program called Making More Miracles: Pediatric Medical Needs Grants where families living in the tri-county area (Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties) can apply for grant funding to purchase medically beneficial equipment or services for their child. In 2021, over $37,000 in grant funding was administered to help children in our communities.

Being a CMN member hospital means that we hold a special responsibility in our hearts to provide access to quality care for children and their families. It means that we are committed to addressing critical health care concerns that directly impact local kids and we are actively working on ways to improve children’s healthcare for the future. It means that no child will ever be turned away from our doors because of their citizenship status or ability to pay.
